Conversation, not just presentation
The goal is not to build another lecture series
Programs can make room for exchange between the people invited to speak and the people who came to listen. Depending on the subject, the format may include moderated conversation, audience questions, readings, storytelling, panel discussion or a less formal plática. Some programs may focus on art and culture. Others may begin with neighborhood life, food, music, history, creativity or issues that matter to the community around us.
What may happen here. Artist and creative talks. Readings. Panels. Spoken word. Author conversations. Community conversations. Pláticas. Cultural discussions. Music and conversation formats. Food and conversation programs with independent chefs and local boutique restaurants.
How programs are developed. Talks and conversations may be produced by 108 Blue Star, co-presented with an outside partner or hosted as part of a broader program. We are not committing the series to a bilingual format at this stage. Language and accessibility needs can be considered based on the specific audience and program.
Have a conversation worth gathering around? Artists, writers, organizations, producers and community partners can propose a program through the programming inquiry process. Tell us what the conversation is about, who should be part of it, why it matters now and what kind of audience you believe would come.
This is a co-presenting line rather than one 108 Blue Star originates alone. SAMA, the McNay and Centro Cultural Aztlan already run established talk series in San Antonio. We would rather host and collaborate with that work than start a rival to it.
Upcoming talks and pláticas appear on the What's On calendar, with free programs clearly marked as free.
